Midnight
Whistling at the top of your lungs
Keeping all bad thoughts at bay
Nothing can touch us now
Hot cocoa and lo-fi for company
Crooked smiles and dusty books
Lights off
Dancing around in our shorts
Shards of uneaten lies
You smell so good tonight
Sweat and musk and your ex's perfume
I imagine his face as I kiss you
Does it hurt to sing of love?
Summer rains
Relentless talks of death
Hospital gowns
Silence interspersed with the beeping of the bipap machine
He passes me a note at dusk
"It'll be okay."
Where do we go from here?
